Tropical Storm Eta Makes Landfall

The deadly Tropical Storm Eta quickly approached the Florida Keys and many weather specialists are expecting it to strengthen into a ferocious Category 1 hurricane over the next few days.

Over the last few days, the tropical storm caused widespread chaos in Central America. It destroyed hundreds of homes in its path and may be responsible for a few dozen deaths and missing people as a result of a rain-fuelled landslide.

Tropical Storm Eta strengthened as it crossed the Gulf of Mexico and has made landfall in the Florida Keys. Experts tracking the storm have recorded wind speeds of about 65mph and are expecting severe flooding to occur along Florida's coastline. They've also mentioned that the storm is following a zig-zag path. Residents in this area are told that they can expect an increase in tropical rain downpour over the next few days.

Flooding Increases

Residents are already experiencing bouts of storm surges and flooding across the South of Florida. The tropical downpour has already delivered about 6-12 inches of rain in various parts of the state.

Tropical Storm Eta is the 12th named storm of the 2020 hurricane season, following the onslaught of Tropical Storm Bertha, Cristobal, Fay, Hanna, Isias, Laura, Marco, Sally, Beta, Delta and Zeta.

The storm is expected to make its way northeast, moving at a speed of 13mph. The storm is expected to strengthen into a hurricane on Wednesday and will most likely weaken by Friday.

State Of Emergency

Governor Ron DeSantis has issued an executive order declaring a state of emergency for Broward, Collier, Hendry, Lee, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe and Palm Beach County.

In Miami-Dade, county water officials have been struggling to drain the flooding waters which have caused several vehicles to stall and are slowly starting to seep into people's homes.

In Brevard County, county officials prompted all schools to close in the county, in order to exercise caution for the approaching storm.

Weather experts are closely watching Tropical Storm Eta and will provide all information as the weather system moves and develops.
